If your Microblading has lost intensity or you notice changes in shape or colour, a personal assessment may be helpful. At Kosmetikinstitut Expert in Berlin, Olga Keller checks remaining pigment, hair strokes and skin condition. This determines whether a later refresh is suitable and which additions are possible.

What is a later Microblading refresh?

A refresh is a later appointment for Microblading that has been present for some time. Remaining colour and the appearance of the lines are assessed individually. Pigments do not have to disappear completely after a set number of months; unchanged colour or permanently sharp lines cannot be guaranteed.

A refresh and the touch-up after initial treatment

The touch-up included in our initial treatment package usually takes place after 4–6 weeks. It is used to assess and, if needed, supplement the healed result. A later refresh is a separate appointment with its own agreed scope and price. Our PMU refresh overview also explains this distinction.

Before further pigmentation, we assess remaining colour, line direction and skin condition. Shape or colour changes depend on the starting condition; not every old pigmentation can simply be retraced or covered. Carefully planning additions to existing hair strokes

Before a microblading touch-up, Olga Keller examines which lines remain visible, how the colour looks and whether the existing shape still fits your wishes. Her many years of experience help her assess the current work and discuss appropriate additions with you. This involves the brow shape, a suitable shade and the technique that fits the current condition. Whether a touch-up is possible and how much is needed are assessed in person.

At your request, Olga can complement this traditional assessment with her own AI-assisted software. She can show possible adjustments to shape, colour and technique as digital designs. With faded hair strokes, this makes it easier to discuss keeping a familiar shape or carefully adding to one area. Your wishes are refined together with Olga.

You decide whether you would like a digital preview. Olga also plans your touch-up individually without AI. The screen provides guidance; assessing the pigments in your skin and agreeing on the outline remain essential. A touch-up only begins with your consent.

When might a refresh be appropriate?

Timing depends on actual fading, your skin and preferences. A refresh does not automatically become due after a fixed period. Reasons to seek advice may include:

• The color has faded significantly or has taken on a too cool/warm undertone.
• Gaps have appeared in the hair stroke drawing.
• The contours appear blurry and you have to apply makeup daily.
• You want to discuss whether the shape or intensity can be adjusted carefully.

Refresh process: assessment, planning and pigmentation

Assessment, mapping, colour choice and care are agreed with you personally:

1. Assessment: Olga Keller analyzes the condition of the remaining pigment and your skin texture.
2. Mapping and agreement: We measure the brows and outline the planned shape. You check the design in the mirror and discuss adjustments with Olga Keller before consenting to pigmentation.
3. Color Selection: The pigment mixture is newly adjusted to compensate for color changes.
4. Pigmentation: The agreed additions are pigmented according to the condition of your existing hair strokes. Sensations vary from person to person; a pain-free treatment cannot be guaranteed.
5. Personal aftercare advice: You receive guidance on care during your individual healing process.

Prices for our work and work from another studio

A later refresh of work from another studio currently costs 175 € instead of 200 €, with around 90 minutes planned for the appointment. Prior assessment of the existing pigmentation is required. The scope is agreed before the appointment.

Health, contraindications and preparation

Before pigmentation, we discuss your skin condition, medical conditions, known allergies and medication. Health risks may require medical advice. Inflamed, damaged or sunburnt skin in the brow area is not pigmented.

Discuss health factors beforehand

Please tell us about the following circumstances in advance so we can assess whether and when treatment is possible:

• Blood clotting disorders or blood-thinning medication: Medical advice is required beforehand to establish whether treatment is possible. Do not stop prescribed medication on your own.
• Chronic infections, such as hepatitis or HIV: Please tell us beforehand. Whether treatment is an option is assessed individually based on your health, therapy and medical advice.
• Tendency to form keloid scars: We do not perform pigmentation if you have a known tendency to develop keloids.
• Epilepsy: Your health, therapy and suitable timing are assessed beforehand with your treating doctor.
• Diabetes mellitus or known wound-healing problems: Please ask your treating doctor beforehand whether pigmentation is possible.
• Acute skin conditions, inflammation, injuries or sunburn in the brow area: Treatment is postponed until the skin is intact again.
• Suspicious moles in the treatment area: Have these assessed by a dermatologist beforehand. We do not pigment over moles.

Temporary limitations and appointment planning

Please discuss your appointment with us beforehand in the following situations:

• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: To protect the child and due to hormonally-caused poorer pigment absorption, we do not treat during this time.
• Acute Infections: In case of cold, flu, or fever, the body should recover first.
• Antibiotics: Please tell us in advance which medicine you are taking and why. If necessary, we consult your treating clinician to establish whether and when pigmentation is possible. Do not stop prescribed medication on your own.
• Previous cosmetic treatments: Please tell us in advance when and where you have had Botox or fillers. We agree individually on the interval before pigmentation and involve your treating clinician if needed.
• Individual wellbeing: Please tell us beforehand if you feel unwell or particularly sensitive. If needed, we agree on a different appointment with you.

Preparation for Your Touch-Up Appointment

Please follow these instructions before your appointment:

• 24 hours beforehand: Do not drink alcohol.
• Medication: Please tell us about your medication in advance. Do not stop prescribed medication on your own. Medical advice may be needed to establish whether treatment is suitable.
• On the day of treatment: Avoid coffee and caffeinated beverages.
• Care products: Please tell us beforehand about peels, retinol and other products used in the brow area. Preparation is agreed individually; do not stop prescribed products on your own.
