Permanent Make-up Removal — Which Methods Are There?
An old, too dark or colour-shifted permanent make-up can be bothersome — and the wish for removal is understandable. But which methods are there, and is removal always the best solution? At Kosmetikinstitut Expert in Berlin, Olga Keller, owner and master artist, advises her clients on this honestly. In this article we give an overview.
Why remove it at all?
The reasons are varied: a permanent make-up done years ago that has faded and developed an unflattering blue or red cast, a shape that is no longer liked, or a result from an inexperienced studio. In such cases, many first think of complete removal.
But it is important to know: removal is not always the only or best way. Often an old result can also be corrected or reworked — an experienced artist assesses this in a personal conversation.
Method 1: Laser removal
Laser removal is the best-known method. A special laser breaks up the pigment particles, which the body then gradually breaks down. Usually several sessions are necessary. Laser removal is carried out by providers specialised in it and is particularly suitable for dark pigments.
Important to know: not every pigment colour can be lasered equally well, and the area around the eyes requires special caution. Expert advice beforehand is therefore essential.
Method 2: Lightening with special solutions
Another method works with special lightening solutions that are introduced into the skin and transport the pigment upwards. Here too, several sessions are usual. This method is suitable for certain cases and is assessed individually.
Which method is an option in your case depends on the pigment colour, the depth and your skin. There is no blanket recommendation — the individual assessment is decisive.
Often the better solution: correction instead of removal
In many cases, complete removal is not necessary at all. If the old permanent make-up has already faded, it can often be brought into a beautiful, modern shape with a rework. With microblading or Powder Brows in the right colour, an old result can become natural again.
Olga Keller honestly assesses whether a correction is sufficient in your case or whether a prior lightening makes sense. This way you avoid unnecessary steps and reach the goal most beautifully.
