Microblading Looks Too Light After Healing: Why Is That?

The brows were beautifully strong right after the treatment — and suddenly, after healing, they look far too light or almost gone? We hear this worry often, and in most cases it is unfounded. At Kosmetikinstitut Expert in Berlin, Olga Keller, owner and master artist, performs every permanent make-up treatment personally and explains why freshly healed microblading often looks lighter — and what really lies behind it.

The most common cause: the healing layer

Right after healing, a thin new layer of skin lies over the pigment. It acts like a gentle veil that temporarily covers the colour. That is why the brows often appear pale in the days after flaking — this phase is called "frosting".

The pigment has by no means disappeared. It is still in the skin and gradually comes back to the surface over the following one to two weeks, as soon as the healing layer normalises. Patience is the most important adviser here.

Why the second session is part of it

Microblading is fundamentally designed for two appointments. Only at the touch-up after about four to six weeks does it become clear how the skin has taken up the pigment. Olga Keller then specifically fills in spots that stayed lighter and perfects the shape.

This second session is not a sign that something went wrong — it is an integral part of the procedure. Every skin takes up pigment differently, and that is exactly why the final result is only assessed after the touch-up.

Which skin types hold the pigment less well

Some skin types do indeed let microblading heal lighter. Oily skin and large pores can blur the fine hair strokes so that the colour looks less saturated. Very well-circulated or thin skin also influences how the pigment holds.

This is exactly why Olga Keller honestly assesses your skin type even before the treatment. With very oily skin she often recommends Powder Brows, since the soft shading effect stays saturated and even there longer than fine lines.

What you can contribute to durability yourself

Care after the treatment strongly influences the result. Consistent sun protection is the most important factor: UV radiation makes pigments fade faster. Aggressive peels or oily creams in the brow area can also weaken the colour.

Olga Keller gives you personal care instructions that suit your skin precisely. With the right care and regular refreshing, your brows stay beautiful and even for a long time.

Why experience makes the difference

Olga Keller is a state-certified beautician with a medical foundation and has been a pioneer of microblading in Berlin since 2013. In almost 13 years and thousands of treatments she has developed a fine sense of how differently skin takes up pigment — and how deep and in what colour to work so that the result sits exactly right after healing.

She works exclusively with certified pigments made in Germany. This care and experience, confirmed by hundreds of 5-star reviews, is why clients travel to her from all over Germany and abroad.
