Microblading Healing Stages Day by Day: What Is Normal?

Freshly done microblading looks stronger at first than the final result will be — and that is completely normal. Many women feel unsure in the first few days: Is the colour too dark? Why is the skin flaking? In this article we guide you through the healing stages day by day. At Kosmetikinstitut Expert in Berlin, Olga Keller, owner and master artist, performs every permanent make-up treatment personally and explains exactly what to expect.

Day 1 to 2: strong colour and slight swelling

Right after the treatment the brows look darkest and most sharply drawn. Slight redness or gentle swelling of the skin is normal and usually subsides within a day. The colour appears more intense now because the pigment is still completely fresh in the uppermost layer of skin.

Important in this phase: keep the brows clean and dry, do not rub them and consistently apply the care recommended by Olga Keller. This lays the foundation for a beautiful, even result.

Day 3 to 5: the skin starts to flake

Now the skin begins to flake slightly — a natural part of the healing process. The upper layer of skin gently peels away, and the brows may look lighter or uneven in places. This is no cause for concern.

Very important: never remove the flakes yourself and do not scratch. If the skin heals on its own, the pigment is optimally preserved. If you intervene too early, small gaps can form that have to be reworked later.

Day 6 to 10: the "frosting" phase

After the flaking, it can happen that the brows suddenly look very pale — as if hardly any colour is left. This phase is fondly called "frosting". Over the freshly healed skin lies a thin new layer of skin that temporarily veils the pigment. This too is completely normal.

Be patient: the pigment has not disappeared, it is just temporarily harder to see. Over the following days the colour gradually comes back to the surface.

Week 2 to 4: the colour returns

Now the actual result shows itself. The colour stabilises, looks softer and more natural than on the first day and blends harmoniously into the face. Only now do you see how your brows will look permanently — natural and well-groomed, entirely in keeping with Olga Keller's philosophy of naturalness.

After about four to six weeks the skin is fully healed. Then the important second appointment usually follows: the touch-up, in which Olga Keller fills any gaps and perfects the brows. Only with this session is the microblading truly complete.
